SEASCAPES AND TIME: Environmental Movement

Dates:  16th-17th May, 2026  

Location: Charmouth Beach,  West Dorset

This weekend workshop – working on Charmouth Beach – is an introduction to (or reminder of) the practice of moving in nature.

Moving on the beach, this environmental movement workshop introduces the skills of being/becoming viscerally aware of your own movements as part of the natural movements around you.. Your body-in-movement is one part of the choreography of movements surrounding you – the rhythm of the sea, the gusts of wind, the trickle of shingle, the impression in the sand, the flight of a bird, the fleeting gesture of a companion.

First giving time to receive where we are as we move, engaging all our senses, through place we shall become aware of our own condition, of our preferences and of our inner stories. We shall move in different habitats on the cliffs and along the shore line, appreciating both the details and the expanse, the cliffs and the horizon. Finally, here, on the Jurassic Coast, through the sound of the waves, the sea and the tides we shall practise being-in-time with what is occurring around us and being aware of our movement making marks in Time.
