"The origins of this ritual/lecture lie in a visit last year to Coventry and its cathedrals. The new cathedral, bridged to the ruins of the old by what looks like the under fuselage of a bomber aircraft, rose after the war with a commitment to reconciliation.

Then comes an antecedent origin, a memory of a lecture by Karlheinz Stockhausen I attended in 1972 which completely transformed my perception of hearing and listening - a lecture in which he spoke music.

You will hear parts of his ‘Hymnen’ in this piece. His “portrait of humanity”, including a weaving of 40 national anthems, football chants and synthesised sound, is a utopian pointer towards unity, a contrast to what has been dubbed “that bloody, *******, Brexit mug” that you will see before you.

I am interested to explore my theme of hesitant human being - adventures in reconciliation, through what I am beginning to understand as a choreography of speaking singing."

This lecture/ritual evolved within the collaborative creativity of the Move into Life Project Group.
