"it is important to note that there have been several trail blazers whose work radically predates this collection of essays... – Sandra Reeve’s Move into Life work draws on thirty years of professional environmentally-engaged movement work."
Editorial in Theatre, Dance and Performance Training, Volume 15, 2024 What is Move into Life?Move into Life teaches you the art of being in movement.
This is movement pure and simple – not a particular way of moving, not a particular form or style. It requires no particular experience, skills or physical ability. Explore the movements you make every day – shrugs and stretches… reaching out, putting down and holding on… twisting and leaning. Choose one, slow it down, find where it starts, follow it to see where it leads. This is the essence of Move into Life. It’s… Like yoga without any positions Like dance without any steps Like walking without a destination Like meditation without the stillness Like autobiography without the words... Move into Life is a way of: Developing movement as an art form Exploring how we are in relationship, in nature, in our bodies Enquiring into our experience of life Identifying the habits and patterns that define our lives Making new choices about how we live. What you can learn from Move into LifeMove into Life is a practice you can dip into or make a part of daily life. It soon becomes a way into understanding yourself differently. You can:
Instead of a single, fixed 'self', Move into Life talks of our many and changing 'selves-in-motion in the environment'. Movement is a way of cultivating awareness of these 'selves-in-motion in the environment'. Movement gives us a feeling sense of these selves. Movement also gives us a direct expression of how we are at any moment. It's creative, versatile, fun, self-revealing and transformative. Move into Life is a 'foundation programme for embodiment'. You can attend just one or two workshops or the whole year's programme or anything in between. Read more and, if you're interested, start with a workshop that appeals to you. If you decide to attend more, you'll gradually build a stimulating personal practice and a thorough understanding of movement as ‘the skill of skills’. My life’s work has been to learn about, study and explore the way we move in daily life and, in parallel, to engage with movement as an art form.
I have studied movement (notably Amerta Movement for over 30 years, with Suprapto Suryodarmo), explored movement as a form of meditation, worked as a movement psychotherapist, completed a PhD on ecological movement and I have created an annual programme of movement workshops and courses that I call Move into Life®.
