Strata - Autobiographical Movement

Picture
Strata: The Process Lens

Dates

UK: 17th - 21st May, 2014
Ireland: 11th - 17th August, 2014

Location:

UK: Wootton Fitzpaine/Stonebarrow, Charmouth, West Dorset

Ireland: The Boghill Centre, Kilfenora, Co. Clare

Select a theme or narrative that is present in your life, move with it and explore it in different surroundings – sometimes indoors, but mainly outdoors, either on Stonebarrow Hill or on the Burren in Co. Clare - moving through the different strata of these beautiful sites: including the Burren itself, hilltops, woods, clifftop ledges and by the sea. You will work alone and in small groups.

At the end of the workshop, you will be invited to create and share a short movement piece to help you crystallise your experience and to be witnessed by the others. This can be an effective way of healing past wounds, restating new intentions or affirming change.

Throughout the workshop you will be guided as you explore new movement forms – focusing as much on future possibilities as on existing beliefs and habits. It’s an opportunity to get a new perspective on your own 'mythology' and the stories that you tell yourself and others about yourself and your life, a chance to bring your movement ‘up-to-date’ and to allow creativity to emerge from your life experiences.

Through movement scores and simple activities you will be guided to become aware of:
  • Experimenting with different lines, angles and points of view
  • Playing with proportion and perspective
  • Noticing what you notice - the particular qualities, textures and landscapes that hold meaning for you
  • Learning to commit to a movement
  • Playing with balance and off-balance and relaxing control
  • Suspending judgement
  • Finding the ever-shifting threshold between spontaneity and awareness
  • Experimenting with new rhythms in movement
  • Opening and spreading awareness
  • Valuing atmosphere.
  • Witnessing, listening, feeling
  • Becoming your own guide/an involved witness through this creative process

"The degree of stimulus and the depth of reflective-ness I am left with after the completion of the workshop is testimony to the exquisite quality and richness of the work. I can sincerely say I find this work transformational."
