World Environment Day 2008 - USA (June 5th, 2008) Prescott, Arizona Mizu Desierto, who had been teaching a month long course in Butoh-ritual dance through Prescott College, shared an offering of the culmination of that work, in the landscape of the desert, as an offering to the local community. In Mizu's words: "We are happy to be dancing upon the planet with the web art garden". Alex Dea was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the middle of Ramli Ibrahim's 3-week Stirring Odissi festival and symposium (see www.stirringodissi.com). Alex sent best greetings to everyone on World Environment Day. from Alex Dea – Yogyakarta, Java ======================================== Group Meditation & Ritual, Bondalem, Bali (June 5th, 2008) BALI MANDALA at the SEACOAST of BONDALEM, NORTH BALI. Gisela von Keiser-Grenkowitz and others were in the middle of a meditation retreat and did a group ritual together. ======================================== Selamatan for Pasar Triwindu in Solo, Java (May 18, 2008) Diane Butler (USA / Tejakula, North Bali); Mamiek Suharti (East Java / Solo); and Suprapto Suryodarmo (Solo) as Dewi Sarawaswati--goddess for knowledge & art, Dewi Sri / Seblang--rice goddess for earth’s fertility, and Panji--a legendary prince caring for humankind and the environment; accompanied by village lesung rice pounding music and prayer song, offered a ritual selamatan for the renovation and prosperity of the antique market Pasar Triwindu. ======================================== Art and Prayer Offerings - Bali (June 5th, 2008) GOA GAJAH TEMPLE LOTUS POND in BEDULU, BALI Historically the area surrounding the Goa Gajah Temple elephant cave was a meditation hermitage connected with a seminal 11th Century deliberation of conciliation at Samuantiga Temple where Bali Aga, Çiwaist, and Buddhist societies met in friendship and were able to create offerings together for peace and prosperity. The firmly seated elephant-headed Ganesa, is a patron deity of commercial and literary enterprises, removing obstacles especially in literary and educational matters. Dharma Nature Time invited people to gather at the Goa Gajah Lotus Pond from 7 to 8 o’clock in the morning to make art & prayer offerings for World Environment Day. ======================================== World Environment Day 2008 - UK (10:30 - June 5th, 2008) Avebury Stone Circle Some small groups and individuals offered movement pieces, short performances and ritual during the day at Avebury Stone Circle, including Prapto who offered a ritual piece with Sitras, a Javanese dalang from the slopes of Merapi, who performs and runs a dance school, with others. There were also opportunities for all to move in different parts of the site.
