Dates:
21st-22nd September, 2019 (Workshop I) ~ 2nd-3rd November, 2019 (Workshop II)

Location: Wootton Fitzpaine Village Hall,  West Dorset, DT6 6ND, UK

- Body in Movement –
Make less the flat!

"Sometimes movement is flat - it has no nuance, no sensing, no impulse and our receiving of the world and of the other remains flat. How can we wake up our recognition in the pool of life, wake up our understanding, our awareness and our sensorimotor life so that we can feel not flat?" (Suprapto Suryodarmo)

These Body in Movement workshops run over two weekends to offer a comprehensive introduction to Move into Life practice (it's also a chance to refresh your practice if you haven't done this work for some time).

If you attend both workshops I will give you individual suggestions for a regular personal practice during the weeks in-between and the possibility of one-to-one sessions immediately before or after the weekends at a reduced rate.

We will begin with recognising and following the structure of the body.  Responding to the movement tasks I suggest for you, you will move in your own way -- and I will support you to realise and appreciate how you already move, and gradually to expand your choice of movement vocabulary and your embodied awareness of your moving self-in-context. I see ‘movement as being’ rather than ‘movement as function’: you are your movement rather than you do your movement.

Maximum 12 people to ensure individual attention.

Areas of practice:
Yawning, stretching and breathing to enliven the being
Shaping of movement through the articulation of the joints
Body as a constellation with many possible variations
Movement at different levels in space.
Stillness through pausing, stopping, receiving without losing the flow of movement
Choices of rhythm, direction and tone within the flow of movement
Staying and going
Proportion/Scale in gesture and motion
Active/passive in movement – for example initiating and receiving
Composition in context- with an awareness of  self, place and others = constellation
Moving with objects- introduction to the world of fact and the world of dream
An approach to voice with movement

Cost (excluding accommodation):
£250 for both workshops  ~  £135  for one workshop

For those booking early, I can offer to book good-value self-catering accommodation – twin bed or single rooms - for both weekends.

“There is a clarity and simplicity in Sandra Reeve's teaching that enables even the most desk- and mind-bound of participants to leave behind any habitual sense of physical awkwardness and explore their body in space like a three-year old.”

For most of us, our daily movement is something we never notice. Yet our bodies and our movement store memories and habits that affect and condition our whole lives.

This workshop gives you a chance to pay attention to the way you move and to identify ways you might move differently.

The central teaching of this workshop is that there is no movement without attitude and no attitude without movement:
  • The way we have learnt to move shapes our attitudes; changing the way we move changes our attitudes.
  • Our attitudes shape the way we move; changing our attitudes changes the way we move.
