The Move into Life Guiding & Witnessing Closed Group 2026 with Sandra Reeve
Wootton Fitzpaine, West Dorset
In 2026 I’m offering a closed group for experienced movers (maximum 12 people) to study and research ‘guiding and witnessing’ in movement.
This may be relevant to your professional work, perhaps teaching movement or somatics or working as an individual or group therapist.
It may be something you want to do to fine tune your awareness of your own movement for your own creative process, for blossoming, which I call self-guiding – in communication and by working with others.
There will be three 5-day workshops and one 3-day workshop, so 18 days in total over 9 months as well as the requirement to practise a certain number of hours guiding others when you are at home and to bring those experiences back to the group.
When I first came across Amerta Movement in 1987, I was struck by how Suprapto Suryodarmo (and those training with him at that time) would move with people to transmit bodily understanding, rather than try to explain or to give verbal instructions.
I witnessed hours of moving bodies transforming their movement vocabulary in a way that seemed to last. (This process of being guided through movement was later called ‘gardening’ by Prapto.) At the time it seemed to me the most obvious thing in the world that a body in movement would respond directly to stimuli given through the guide’s movement, if that movement paid attention to atmosphere and to context, was placed openly in the space and directed towards the mover.
I have since spent many years learning more about this process by moving with others.
In this course I will focus on how to guide an individual in movement indoors, outdoors and as part of a group , to support their growth and blossoming. This can be done:
first by witnessing someone’s movement − in order to perceive more clearly the movement of the other and to recognise one’s own bias
then by moving with them and by offering movements/dynamics as stimuli for change.
Each participant will have their own distinctive style in guiding others, so as well as establishing some basic principles, my job will be to support the evolution of your own particular way of receiving and attuning to the movement of the other(s) through your own moving body.
This course is by application only and open to movers with a sustained practice in Move into Life or Amerta Movement who are interested in working with others in some way, now or in the future.
