Site-specific/environmental performance challenges the performer’s conventional relationship with their audience and surroundings in many ways.
  • How can you treat your audience as part of the environment – embedded in it – rather than seeing the environment as scenery – as a backdrop?
  • How can you help your audience experience this same sense of participating in the performance and in the site?
This performance skills workshop offers tasks that will stimulate kinaesthetic associations with the site where you are working. These associations will be particular to you but will be evoked in you by the features of the site and the possibilities it affords. Learn how to craft them into performance material.

You will have an opportunity to work with:
  • the senses and proportion 
  • ‘staying’ and ‘going’ 
  • initiating and receiving 
  • point, line and angle
  • voice and sound. 

These tools can be applied in all art forms, creating a vocabulary for cross-art form collaboration with other visual artists, musicians, photographers and video makers…. Come with a colleague!

This outdoor workshop culminates in each participant / small group creating and sharing a short movement piece on site with an invited audience. This will be followed by useful feedback to stimulate your next step.
