The Art of the Witness: Receiving in Movement
Dates: 26th - 27th November, 2016
Location: Charmouth, West Dorset
(witness: (before 950AD) (noun) Middle English, Old English witnes orig. knowledge, understanding; )
Each of the words 'observer', 'witness' and 'audience' implies a different relationship to receiving the other as they move.
The intention may be simply to give one’s full attention to whatever is happening, it may be to support the other, it may be to understand the other, to learn from the other or it may be to offer some kind of movement teaching. The witness may be seated or moving. The witness may pay attention to one part of the body as it moves, to the whole being-in-movement or to the mover within their environment. These are like nests of perceptual possibilities which co-exist all the time.
How do you do this? How do I do this? What practical skills are involved and how can we expand our sensitivity to the other in movement? How can we become aware of the flavour of our own particular choices of breath patterns, positionings, metaphors, perceptions and phrases as we witness the other(s) move? And how does our ‘witness ‘become integrated within our moving being so that we have the space to make informed in-the-moment choices for ourselves as we move.
The workshop is open to anyone with a regular practice that involves an idea of ‘witnessing’ others moving- dance/theatre practitioners, movement and somatic psychotherapists, Shiatsu practitioners and other bodyworkers, Amerta movers and other schools of movement practitioners.
Cost: £125 for the weekend (excluding accommodation). Book before 26th October for the Earlybird rate of £110. Concessions available.
