PhD Thesis: The Ecological Body ~ extracts

Shiatsu

I trained in Shiatsu with Sonia Moriceau and qualified as a Shiatsu practitioner in 1987.

Shiatsu is based on the Chinese medical view of human health being fundamentally connected to their relationship to their environment through an ever-shifting balance of the Five Elementsand the circulation of Ki[1] through the meridians. The working definition of health is expressed as a person’s capacity for adapting to change, rather than as a fixed state.

[1] Ki in Japanese, (known as Chi in Chinese), is ‘life-force’ energy, which is believed to flow through the meridians in Shiatsu and in Acupuncture.
